So I'm sitting at my desk at work ...

... when one of the editors comes running up to me. "Thank god you're here Andrew."
I'm thinking "Oh great, some vitally important graphic got screwed up or needs to be started/finished right away."
"I'm freaking out!" the editor exclaims.
"Crap, here it comes," I say to myself. Out loud I say, "What's going on?"
"What was written on the thing Amy Pond was looking at in the last scene of that last epsiode of Doctor Who? My PVR cut off the ending."

They Might Be Giants, Luminato 2011

On Saturday, June 11, 2011, Leigh and I went to the Luminato festival in Toronto to see my favorite band. They Might Be Giants. Even though I've been a fan of the band for as long as I can remember (I started listening to them shortly after they released "Flood") this was the first time I'd gotten to see them live. Now I'm sad that I don't see them coming back to Toronto in the immediate future.
The show was great, I was especially impressed with the playlist being in alphabetical order. And as you can see I was inspired to draw the Johns.  I'd say the getting the opportunity to work with them on something would probably be one of my dream illustration jobs.

And for the curious, the bands I seem listen to the most are: They Might Be Giants, The Ramones and The Art of Noise.

Monstar!? Star Trek.

So, I just drew some Star Trek guys in my "monstar style" for the art book I'm working on for fan expo. I'll share Kirk with you but you'll have to wait for the book to see the full image.

Monstars: In the Mouth of Madness (1994)

Another Classic from John Carpenter. "IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS" a movie I like almost as much as The Thing. Actually now that I think of it I might like Mouth of Madness just slightly more. Anyway up there is the terrifying visage of the missing Author / new god Sutter Cane. If you haven't seen it yet, Go. Stop reading this and go watch "In the Mouth of Madness. A true John Carpenter classic.

Monstars: ALIEN (1979)

Ah, Alien. One of my favourite movies. Not quite as awesome as The Thing, but still pretty awesome.
This is the last piece of finished art I'm probably going to post for a while since I'll be trying to put most of my artistic effort to doing some new pieces specifically for an little art book I'm trying to throw together for the FanExpo this year. If not an art book, I'll be trying to throw together some new art to sell prints of. A large section of the book taken up with Monstars, the rest will be random pinups and maybe a few comic stories, a mix of things you've seen and things you may not have seen before.
