"It makes the pain of being dead stop..."

Ahhh, Return of the Living Dead. You know the first time I saw it I hated it. "What?! zombie that can talk and plan and run around?! They only eat brains and their bite isn't infectious?! That's stupid!" Then one day I decided to re watch it. Now its one of my all time favorite movies. Some of that has to do with the characters in the flick they're all pretty awesome. Espcially Suicide, his "you think this is a costume?" speech is hilarious. But mostly I love the EC horror comic vibe the flick's got. Like American Werewolf in London the tone manages to be both creepy and funny without damaging either tone.
Also the Tarman is boss.
Its really weird how this one little punk rock zombie movie managed to work its way into mainstream pop culture. Zombies ate flesh up until RotLD and almost ever zombie movie, comic, novel whatever that came after it. But for some weird reason EVERYONE knows "zombies eat brains". Ask someone to do an impression of a zombie, they're more than likely going to shamble around moaning "Brraaaiiinns," but outside of the Return of the Living Dead you'll almost never see zombies doing that in zombie flicks. Weird, eh? And everyone goes on and on about how 28 days later and the Dawn of the Dead remake introduced "running zombies" but Return did it first in 1985.
Oh and steer clear of the sequels they're pretty crummy. Part two is mostly watchable, and three is pretty good, but neither are as amazing as the first, but anything after part three ... HOO-Boy!

Blue Hulk

Hey look I did some Superhero fan art. Not something I usually do but I was listening to my music on the way into work today  and thought of this.
Its because of this song.

Kung fu Horror

Back in college some of my pals and I spent some of our spare time working on a big weird jam comic about a time traveling cybernetic Shaolin monk cleverly named Cybermonk and his fight against a evil reanimated kung fu bad guy who suffered a mutation during his reanimation called Kotaro Fuma (featured above). The ensuing comic featured pretty much anything any of us were interested in at the time; zombies, kung fu, army guys, busty girls armed with big guns, 1950s esque sci-fi heros, time travel, monsters, robots, you get the picture. Whenever we hit 22 or so pages we'd photocopy those pages and put them together as little comic books.
The whole thing started with whoever wanted to add to it could but eventually we got too into the story and pared it down to just three of us, Kagan Mcleod, Mike Faille and me. The comic ended up being slightly more than 100 pages long and it was as nuts as you'd expect considering there was no original plan and we crammed everything we could think of in it. I miss playing around with those guys in a comic book form, but we're all too busy can't seem to be able get it together to do this kind of stupid comic book fun anymore. Being a grown up sucks.

Fantastic Ideas for a Fantastic world.

Just a little thing I was fooling around with based on one of my favorite movies. I always liked the idea of Rand Peltzer taking these weird little supernatural monsters and packaging them up for sale. Especially with the weird "rules". I may have to do a "Bathroom Buddy" or "Smokeless Ashtray" design in the future.

Frankenstein and a werewolf were walking through the woods ...

Just sketchin' monsters, its what I like to do. Anyway I made this one huge so you can use it as wallpaper for your computer, if its not so scary.
In case you're wondering "what's up with the werewolf's ears?" I've always found the ears on the werewolves in "The Howling" hilarious so I drew hilarious Howling style ears on the werewolf.
I also like how unimpressed Frankenstein (cram it that's his name, the doctor's name was Victor Frankenstein) looks with the werewolf's attempts to be scary.
I hope you enjoy this pic since you'll probably be seeing more monster drawings in the coming days/month/years since, like I've said, I like drawing monsters.

Sketchin' while commutin'

Doodling in my Molskine this morning on the way into work. Drawing monsters first thing in the morning is fun. That top guy you might recognize from the Blind Dead series of films. Saw them for the first time this year and fell in love with the look of the evil knights templar. I saw the second Blind Dead movie first and couldn't believe the series wasn't more popular the undead templar's looked really cool, the movie was creepy and strange in a good way. Then I saw the rest of the series and understood. If you haven't seen them I recommend "Return of the Evil Dead" the second of the Blind Dead movies and then ignore the others they're no where near as good.
I'm not really sure where this other guy came from. I was listening to the Darkest of the Hillside Thickets' album "Shadow Out of Tim" at the time so maybe that's the influence.
