Monstars Double Feature: Labyrinth (1986) & Legend (1985)

Look out its the Goblin King! Jareth. Yep, that's right Jareth. the terrible king of the Goblins from Jim Henson's Labyrinth. and his terrifying pants. He steals babies I think that's enough to warrant his being included with the rest of the monsters in the Monstar collection.

And of course what collection of monsters would be complete without at least one devil. Oh wait, I already had the liquid version of Satan from Prince of Darkness but I really felt like drawing those horns.

Artbook sketch...

So the first of my artbooks went off to its purchaser. He asked that I draw Megan from my Beachblanket Bloodbath and other Something-A-Go-Go comics. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. If you're interested in picking up one of my artbooks email me: abarr at somethingagogo.com Let me know you want one and what you'd like me to draw in the back of the book. the book will cost you $35 (including shipping) payable through paypal.
Carry on.

Monstars: The Classics...

So some Classic Monstars this time. If you don't recognize them I don't know what you'd be thinking of some of the other Monstars that have been here. Anyway if you dig these guys and would like to have them on a shirt or some drinking glasses or something check out my Cafepress store. I'm thinking that at the Fan expo I'll be selling a print that has all the Monstars I've done by the time I get around to making the print.

Monstars: Trick R Treat (2007)

I know its a while until halloween but. Trick R Treat is a great flick any time of the year. I wish there was more anthology films. I really liked the wrap around story with Sam (see above)

And now the trailer.

Monstars: Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006)

Behind the Mask is one of my favorite modern slasher flicks. I really don't understand why the movie went straight to DVD, it really deserved a theatrical release. If you haven't seen it yet and like horror flicks, especially slasher movies you owe it to your self to check it out. Especially now that there might be a sequel in the works. It definitely deserves a sequel. I thought it did a much better job of playing with and explaining the "rules" of the genre then the Scream series
Dig the Trailer

Also a message from Mr. Vernon....

Monstars: Prophecy (1979)

The giant mutant bear from the 1979 environmental horror flick Prophecy. According to this movie mercury poisoning can make women give birth to fish or cats or other lower forms of animals, and bears turn into crazy tumor covered half-furred mutants that wander the woods doing things like this:

Decent movie even though the environmental message is pretty heavy handed and some of the science is hilarious (ie. those above discriptions of what exposure to mercury will do).

Monstars: Brain Damage (1988)

So that's Aylmer, a weird parasite that gets people high while feeding on brains. He latches on to his victims and injects them with a hallucinogenic venom asking only that they go kill people so he can eat their brains. Really strange movie from Frank Henenlotter. Here's the trailer:

SOMETHING A GO GO the art book!

I've got my books for the fan expo. If you're interested in one and aren't going to be at the con or just want to get something before everyone else I'm offering a few of these early through the mail.
If you're interested drop me an e-mail at abarr at somethingagogo.com. I'll let you know if any are still available.
How much do they cost you ask? I'll be selling these for $35 (canadian) that includes shipping. at the con they'll be $25 since I don't have to ship them. They'll eventually be available through lulu.com, but the big difference between these convention books and what you'd get from lulu is these will be a limited edition run. Each of these copies will have a sketch in the back. What will the sketch be of? well that's the fun part. You choose just tell me what character you'd like me to draw and I'll draw it.
I'll also be offering some prints at the con these will also be available through the mail once the con's over. I'm also offering a small package of my Something-a-go-go comics and older sketcbooks for $35 as well (covering the shipping but if you buy the comics and the artbook you can have the whole thing for $50)
That's all for now.
See you in the Future!

HOLIDAY ROAD....

No art from me this time. I just found this weird video the other day and found it amusing enough to share. Watch it. You might be familiar with the song, it was in National Lampoon's Vacation.

What is going on with this video?! Why would you make such a weird creepy depressing video for such and up beat goofy song? Can anyone think of any other songs with as inappropriate videos, cus I'd like to see them.
your pal,
Andrew Barr

Monstars: Hobo With a Shotgun (2011), The Drake

Ok, ok, this is the last Monstar version of a character from Hobo wtih a  Shotgun, I swear! I just felt the need to draw the drake after seeing Leigh Young's take on The Drakes boy's Slick and Ivan. I just really enjoyed the flick and every time I watch it I feel inspired to do some art. Sadly my blu-ray came with a U.S. only code for the digital download so I can't throw the movie onto my ipod. Hopefully I'll get that sorted out eventually.  I hope you dig my take on the Drake and one of his little pieces of life advice. If you haven't seen the movie yet do yourself a favor watch it now.

Monstars : Phantasm II (1988)

In honor of me finally getting around to ordering the region 1 DVDs of the Phantasm series I figured I'd do up a Monstars tribute to the spheres including the Tall Man's gold Sphere. Keeping to my rules for monstars I had to make the Spheres square.

Man I love those movies. I can't wait to watch 'em again. This is the second time I've featured Phantasm in my Monstars collection, here's the orignal: Tall Man and a midget.

Trailer for Phantasm II:

Monstars: The Brain (1988)

My take on The Brain from the Canuxploitation flick "The Brain." The movie's about an alien brain who's using a self-help TV show to brain wash people and eat them or something. Its a pretty weird movie and pretty hard to find. I was lucky enough to catch it on the now deceased Drive-In Classics channel (at one time the greatest thing on digital cable non-stop monster, kung-fu, beach party type movies 7 days a week) and taped it. Normally I'd stick the trailer for a movie like this at the end of my post but I actually couldn't find a decent version of it. sorry. good luck finding the movie you'll be happy you did, if you can. You probably shouldn't expend too much effort finding the movie.

Monstars: American Psycho (2000)

Ah, poor ol' Patrick Bateman. As shallow, empty and dangerous as the decade he was living in. He's showing up as a request from Leigh Young. She told me to draw him mostly because we can't believe this movie isn't in my collection yet. I'm figuring on buying it next time I see it. Great movie, one of my favorite black comedies.

Trailer time!

Crippled Avengers A.k.A. Return of the Five Deadly Venoms

This is my favorite line of dialog in this flick mostly because of the delivery is so weird.

Cho Chu Chang had his arms chopped off as a kid and his Dad gives him new metal ones so they can get revenge on the guy's who crippled him and killed his Mom. By the time Chu is old enough to fight his dad's already killed the guys responsible so he tells his son to cripple all the other guys who worked for the guys who chopped off his arms. Later that day they go out to dinner. The local blacksmith mouths off to them and a travelling sales man agrees with the blacksmith's statements. So the blind him, then they make the blacksmith a deaf mute, and chop off the legs of another guy who's just trying to help the black smith. Eventually a cool swordsman shows up and decides he doesn't like what Cho Chu Chang and his dad did so he confronts them. They crush his head until he's an idiot. So the blind guy, the deaf mute, the guy with no legs and the idiot go and get some kung fu training to get revenge. Its an awesome movie.  If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself.

Beware the beast "man"

I'm really looking forward to this flick (I love all the original apes movies) especially since it seems to be a reimagining of my favorite "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes." Anyway this image just popped into my head last night while I was trying to fall asleep so I figured I had to draw it.
I've also done a portrait of the original Caesar from "Conquest" but that's in my art book, I might post it here eventually but you never know.
Planet of the Apes you guys. Awesome.

Fan Expo 2011: the artbook

What's that you ask? Well I'll tell ya. Its the cover for the artbook I'll be selling at the Fan Expo at the end of August in Toronto. If you're in town and like all that crazy nerdy stuff you should swing by my table and buy some art and comics and stuff. This book will be there and its 68 pages of monsters, girls, comics and other crazy stuff that I did in my spare time. If you like looking at this blog you'll probably dig the book too. As an added bonus these will be a limited run as I'll be drawing something in the back of the ones I'll be selling at the convention. After the convention you'll still be able to buy the book but it won't have any bonus art in it since those copies won't be in handled by me at all. More details on that later.
What's that you won't be able to make the convention and you want one of these limited run weird mind destroying books? I'll be making 5 copies available pre-convention that you can buy. It'll cost you $35 bucks and you'll have to tell me what you want drawn in it. How can you get one? Swing by my website
Something-a-go-go.com hit the contact button and send me an e-mail saying you want one and I'll give you the rest of the details. How's that sound? Yeah that's right, it sounds awesome. Thanks.
